Continued....

I must here make a side note: People say that you absolutely must see France if you visit Europe, but I beg to differ. Portugal is amazing. The people are SO nice (tied with Chile for the nicest citizens), they tolerate your butchering of their language, transport is cheap and great. Postal system also actually functions as a way of sending stuff, not simply a way of disposing of belongings that are important to you and your correspondant (as is the case in France). Also, they have the most consistently good chocolate mousses.

Herewith:

Sun sets over Braga, Portugal.

Square on the Douro; if you look closely that is actually a brio caveman in the fountain. Porto, Portugal.

Port transport boat, retired, currently only transporting tourists. Porto, Portugal.

Definitely the lovliest train station. Aveiro, Portugal.

Ovos moles (squishy eggs). Once we finally got over the name and bought them, they weren't so strange. But not nerely as nice as pasteis de nata. Aveiro, Portugal.

Photos from Portugal! Am slowly catching up to backlog. Went a little crazy with photos while on holiday--so many cool and decrepit houses to photograph!

Those communists sure know what dates to honour. Porto, Portugal.

Orange pants in a Porto street. Portugal.

Pasteis!! Porto, Portugal.

The Virgin Mary looks after all the little fishes, market in Porto, Portugal.

Not sure if this young man is PC. Braga, Portugal.

Again, Again

French portests in town, I think it had something to do with the National Health System and the French predilection for complaining. Nantes (44).

When I saw this being painted, I thought it was Santa and a reindeer (honestly, who has arms like that?). Nantes (44).

Sunday AM bird watching. Paimboeuf (44).

A pump house. La Martiniere (44).

Technical Issues

I haven't posted in a while because the internet never actually seems to work when I am home or at a reasonable hour, so it has been a while. Herewith more photos.

What a girl, a camera, and an empty apartment can get up to when bored.

I was having fun with café signs, as you might see. I like the name. Nantes (44).

Power, corruption, and lies. Indeed. Nantes (44).

Polytech, this is 11 AM and you still can't see the sun. Nantes (44).

The sweet gatehouse near my apartment. Nantes (44).

Better late than never

Am quite efficiently running out of subject matter. Am also struggling against the lack of sunlight, as I essentially don't see the light of day on Tuesdays or Wednesdays. But I toil on. Enjoy, more to follow in (somewhat) hot pursuit.

Picturesque sausages for sale, marché Petite Hollande, Nantes.

Café Pop? Is that like coca-cola blak? Coffee and soda?

We did win didn't we?

Look deep into the eyes of the manta ray. What do you see?

Across the sleeve

In French, the word for the English channel is "La Manche," which my students, of course, thought would translate as "The Sleeve." I spent the weekend just across the sleeve, on the sleeve, in fact, at our house in West Sussex. A number of photos for only a few days, but I couldn't resist, I needed the change in subject matter.

The frogs have still got a lot to learn from us, Nyetimber, UK.

A crab apple tree laden with fruit, Chichester, UK.

Even the English can enjoy the sea on an October day, Pagham Beach, UK.

Sunday morning fisherman, Pagham Beach, UK.

At least the neighbours aren't fans of such outright godwottery! Stedham, UK.

"lls ont des chapeaux ronds..." apparently it is a Breton song, Hotel Dieu, Nantes.
